Journeyman
backflow tester.

A full-time, on-the-truck role for a WI journeyman plumber with the ASSE 5110 credential. Three to ten years of plumbing experience, six months minimum of dedicated backflow work, and a willingness to write a sentence on a test report that another person will read.

Role

The journeyman tester is the third tester on the bench. Each day starts in Suite 110 at 06:30 with the day's queue printed in IBM Plex Mono; the tester loads the assigned gauge, the day's rebuild kits, and any special-order parts, and is on the first job by 07:30. A typical day is three to six premises and four to twelve assemblies. The tester signs the report at each visit and uploads the PDF before leaving the property. Evening admin is minimal — the iPad form handles most of it.

The role will rotate through Okafor's south-side district, Stoltzfus's north-shore district, and Ferraro's core-and-Walker's-Point district during the first six months so the new tester knows the geography. After six months the new tester is assigned a primary district (currently we're projecting Wauwatosa / West Allis / Greenfield, the area Stoltzfus has been spreading thin to cover).

Required

  • WI DSPS journeyman plumber license

In good standing. Master is welcome but not required.

  • ASSE 5110 backflow-tester credential

Current; renewed on schedule. We accept reciprocity from Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa.

  • Valid driver's license

No CDL needed. Truck is a Ford Transit 250.

  • Three years total plumbing experience

Of which at least six months has been dedicated backflow work — testing, repair, or install. We're not the place to learn the basics; we're the place to specialize.

  • The disposition to write

Every test report has a notes section. The notes matter. We'll read what you wrote three years from now and act on it.

Welcome but not required

  • ASSE 5130

Repair-technician credential. If you have it, we'll route the larger rebuilds your way. If you don't, we'll pay for the test and the prep course during your first year.

  • NICET fire-protection credential

Useful for fire-service work; Stoltzfus currently carries most of that load.

  • Spanish

Helpful on the south side. Not required.

  • NFPA 25 working knowledge

    For fire-service accounts. Welcome.

Compensation

Base salary $78,000–$96,000 depending on tenure and credentials. Plus:

  • Health, dental, vision

Employer pays 85% of premium for the employee, 65% for dependents.

  • ASSE annual dues and re-cert

    Paid in full.

  • Annual gauge cert and continuing ed

    Paid in full.

  • 15 days PTO + 8 holidays + 5 sick

From day one. No accrual scheme.

  • 401(k) with 3% match

    After 90 days.

  • Truck, tools, uniforms, phone

    Provided.

  • Owner path

After five years of tenure, eligible to discuss a buy-in. Two of the three current partners came up this way.

Application

Send a cover letter and résumé to careers@wpccrossconnect.example. In the cover letter, name (a) the most challenging assembly you've ever tested and why, (b) one cross-connection finding you've made in the field that surprised you, and (c) which of WPCC's three current testers you'd most like to ride along with for a day. We'll respond within five business days and propose either a phone conversation or a half-day ride-along.

Equal opportunity

We are an equal-opportunity employer. We hire and promote without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, military or veteran status, marital status, or any other classification protected by law.
